About this event

Aonach Beag and Aonach Mor are the 7th and 8th tallest mountains in the UK. Nestled at the very heart of a great tangle of giant peaks and forming part of the Nevis range, their colossal, whale-like stature make them easily identifiable from many vantage points across the Highlands. On the northern slopes of Aonach Mor, the Nevis range ski centre facilitate ease or access and riding the Gondola to half way up the mountain might seem a sensible option. Anyone choosing to approach from this direction however, will miss out on what has to be one the finest and most spectacular Munro approaches that will ever be encountered!! This really is a 5 star route of epic proportions and I am yet to meet anyone who has not been awestruck by the sensational views in every direction. Our route starts off at the road end in Glen Nevis and follows a historic route through the Nevis gorge and past the iconic Steall Falls into Steall Meadow before striking off uphill. As height is gained the views just get better and better. To the south of us are the 10 Munro's of the Mamore's and the infamous Ring of Steall. To our east, stretching out in a long daisy- chain, the Grey Corries Munro's truly look spectacular. To the west, lies the mighty Ben Nevis and the sweeping arc of rock linking the UK's tallest peak with it neighbour, Carn mor Dearg, via the equally famous CMD arete. I don't have words enough to describe quite how spectacular this route out, you'll have to just take my word for it, or better still, join us on either Monday 5th June or Monday 14th August to find out for yourselves!
