About this event

Creag Meagaidh is arguably one the most magnificent of all of Scotland's Munros. A vast plateau hemmed in by some of the most spectacular and dramatic cliffs, Coire Ardair is a mecca for rock climbing, particularly in winter. Thankfully, a weakness in the huge cliffs via the 'Window', provides access for walkers. Despite this weakness, the route is still rough and rocky, and steep in parts, where hands will likely be needed for balance. I prefer to descend this way thereby saving the mountains crowning feature to the end of the day, when it can be enjoyed at a more leisurely pace knowing that all the hard work is out the way. We've got a bit of work to do before we get here, however, as stretching out to the northeast beyond Creag Meagaidh, is a broad and undulating whaleback ridge, which boasts two further Munro summits, Stob Poite Coire Ardair and Carn Liath. Our approach to Carn Liath, via the newly regenerating woodland of the Creag Meagaidh NNR (National Nature Reserve,) is a real haven for wildlife and the work done by NatureScot to re-wild this glacial valley is a real success story. 27 species of trees can now be found here, along with many rare insects and an abundance of bird life, including the Dotterel, Black Grouse, Hen Harrier, Golden Eagle, Merlin, Peregrine, Kestrel, Ring Ouzel, Wax Wing, Field Fare and many more.
