About this event

Buachaille Etive Beag, or as it's more offered called, the 'Wee Bookil', is often overlooked by visitors by its more celebrated neighbour Buachaille Etive Mor. Those who have climbed the twin summits will say however, that it is a magnificent walk in it's own right. Buachaille Etive Beag comprises of two Munro summits, Stob Dubh and Stob Coire Raineach, which are adjoined to one another by an easily accessible, 750m high bealach. Our route follows a superbly constructed path through the Lairig Eilde which greatly eases the ascent. Stob Coire Raineach is a rough and rocky summit affording superlative views across Rannoch Moor and a vast array of neighbouring peaks. After retracing our steps to the bealach, we'll pause for breath before continuing on to our second Munro summit of the day, Stob Dubh. After a steep initial climb to a 900 metre high cairned rise, the going becomes much easier and the ridge narrows, providing superb ridge-walking. A final, steeper rise leads to the fine, shapely summit of Stob Dubh where the views in all directions are nothing short of sensational. Ben Starav and Loch Etive look particularly impressive and on a clear day it's possible to look across to the islands of the southern Hebrides and beyond. If you're relatively new to hill-walking or Munro bagging, or are visiting the Highlands for the first time and are keen to discover the sheer exhilaration of walking along fine mountain ridges and reaching superb viewpoints, then this event is perfectly suited to you.
