About this event

There are very few places in the Highlands where you'll find more Munros squeezed into such a small area as you'll find in Glenshiel. From the Cluanie Inn all the way to Morvich, the 'Road to the Isles' is hemmed in on both sides with long chains of soaring peaks and spectacular ridges. To the north side of the road, no less than 6 Munros line up in an unbroken chain, collectively known as the Brothers and Sisters of Kintail. Sitting slightly behind this main spine and separated by a 600m bealach is the very shapely, pointy peak of Ciste Dhubh. We are here to visit the 'Brothers', which make up the eastern half of the ridge and, by 'tagging on' Ciste Dhubh, a particularly enjoyable and varied circuit of 4 Munros can be had. The route is best tackled from west to east getting the toughest ascent out of the way early on in the day when legs are still fresh. The 'Green Wall' gets a reputation for being a really tough slog but it honestly is nowhere near as bad as some might make out and the directness of the ascent ensures that we gain the ridge line and those superlative views all that much quicker. With the hardest part of the day out the way in the first hour and a half, the continuation along the ridge to the Munros of Saileag, Sgurr a' Bhealaich Dheirg and Aonach Meadhoin is an utter delight. Beyond Aonach Meadhoin we continue over an intervening top before leaving the main spine. A slightly longer descent down broad grassy slopes drops us at the foot of the spectacular south ridge of Ciste Dhubh. This delightfully narrow yet grassy ridge twists and turns and rises and falls before arriving at the truly magnificent summit viewpoint. From here it is possible to look out along the entire length of the ridge all the way to Morvich and, if we're lucky, all the way to Skye and the dramatic Cuillin Ridge.
