The Magnificent Seven. A Munro-baggers delight and grand ridge walk

60 British pounds

About this event

With the possible exception of on our Ben Lawers Event, there will be very few occasions when, during a Munro-baggers career, it is possible to snatch 7 Munro's in a single day! The mountains of Kintail stand among a green and dramatic landscape in a beautiful corner of the northwest Highlands. We are here to bag all 7 peaks in the chain; Creag nan Damh, Sgurr an Lochain, Sgurr an Doire Leathain, Maol Chinn-dearg, Aonach Air Chrith, Druim Shionnach, and Creag a' Mhaim. Yes, it is a long day, but with minimal descent between summits and sensational views that follow us along the way, progress along the ridge is made surprisingly swiftly. The biggest quandary faced by most is in deciding whether to tackle the ridge from east to west or vice versa. That and the decision of what to order off the menu at the Cluanie Inn after a long, tiring day on the hill! Whatever route is chosen, transport will be needed at the end of the day, either another car or a push bike, as there is over 9km between the start point and the finish. We will set out to complete the walk from west to east, finishing up at the Cluanie Inn. The reason I prefer to tackle the ridge this way is two fold. Firstly, most of the difficulties are encountered early in the day when legs are still fresh with the terrain steadily becoming easier the further along the ridge you travel. There is much wet ground near the beginning and two short sections of easy scrambling. Secondly, height is gained more quickly at the start leaving the long walk out to the end; the excellent stalkers path which winds its circuitous route back down to the glen is easier to roll down with tired legs. For many, the South Glen Shiel Ridge is one of the highlights, a fond memory from decades of hillwalking, bashing through heather, enduring the Scottish weather and visiting far-flung remote locations. And for good reason. There is no doubt that this is an absolutely superb and memorable ridge walk. Online booking for this event is available on the following dates.
