About this event
Glen Shiel is one of my favourite places to go walking. Long days, grand views, steep climbs and never-ending ridges make the whole area a wonderful place to explore and to challenge yourself. In winter conditions, steep foreboding terrain and narrow ridge crests put many summits out of reach for all but the most experienced winter mountaineers and Alpinists. On the north side of Loch Cluanie, the 3 Munros that make up the Sgurr nan Conbhairean round are slightly less intimidating than their immediate counterparts and potential winter hazards are easier avoided. We will visit here with the aim to tag all 3 Munro summits in the area and, if conditions are in our favour, the reward will be sensational views in all directions, none more so than looking down into the vast eastern corries. This remains a very tough day and ice axes and crampons with be essential and an excellent level of fitness will be required. It is not at all unusual to experience temperatures below -15 degrees on the summits and combined with windblown snow and ice, conditions can very often feel highly inhospitable up here. To be ready to take on this challenge you will be an experienced hill walker, and would have been regularly walking the munros throughout the summer months. You will be accustomed to walking in adverse weather conditions for 8 hours or more with a heavy pack and be physically very fit. It's likely that head torches will be needed on the ascent and/or descent. Your highly experienced guide, a qualified Winter Mountain Leader, will take care of all of the logistics, navigation, and decision making ensuring everyone's safety at all times creating the best possible chance of success. Additional Information Maximum Group size is 6 and online booking is available on the following dates: Wednesday 13th December 23 All participants will require an ice axe and crampons (not micro-spikes). If you do not have your own equipment then I do have a limited supply available to hire at a small additional charge of £10. Please drop us an email with your requirements. Equipment can also be hired locally.
