About this event
Meall Gheordaidh is the ideal Munro for the winter hill-walking beginner. Easy angled slopes and a route where difficulties are few and far between, make this solitary Munro ideally suited for those wishing to make the transition from summer hill-walking into winter. Suitably equipped with ice axe and crampons, our southern approach from Glen Lochay, west of the picturesque Highland village of Killin, provides for straightforward walking and the perfect venue to practice moving on snow and ice. Throughout the duration of the day, your guide, an experienced winter mountain leader will take care of steering the course towards the summit and will be on hand to answer any questions and offer tips and advice on 'winterising' your kit and navigation strategies. Whilst not intended as a practical winter skills day per se, being one of the less arduous Munro outings, there will hopefully be time enough to practice some of the skills and techniques required for travelling safely through the mountains in winter conditions. Additional Information Maximum Group size is 6 and online booking is available on the following dates: Wednesday 31st January 24 All participants will require an ice axe and crampons (not micro-spikes). If you do not have your own equipment then I do have a limited supply available to hire at a small additional charge of £10. Please drop us an email with your requirements. Equipment can also be hired locally.
