Grey Corries Grand Traverse

Bag all 4 Munros of the Grey Corries on this superb ridge walk

  • 75 British pounds

About this event

On this event we will aim to bag not only all the Munros of the Grey Corries group but a clutch of Munro tops to boot! Seen at their finest from the Commando memorial in Spean Bridge, the quartzite-topped peaks, from which the group gain their name can be seen glimmering in the sunshine. The usual approach to the Grey Corries is from Corriechoille to the north. The problem with this however, is that it leaves Stob Ban stuck out on a limb, inaccessible without a lot of twoing and throwing over previously covered ground. Another option is to climb Stob Ban first, then the back tracking comes at the end of the day when, with tired legs, the 'out and back' to Sgurr Choinnich Mor feels particularly daunting. On our route we will tackle the Munros of Sgurr Choinnich Mor, Stob Coire an Laoigh, Stob Choire Claurigh and Stob Ban by approaching from Glen Nevis to the west. On this longer approach we walk in an anticlockwise circuit, bagging Sgurr Choinnich Mor first and finishing with Stob Ban. This route has the added benefit that we can warm our legs up more gradually whilst enjoying the 5* walk through the scenic Nevis Gorge and past the Steall Falls before hitting the hill. It also means that will save the suspension on our cars as the unmade track that leads to Corriechoille from Spean Bridge has much to be desired! For the most part, the peaks lie in a long chain east to west, with Stob Ban effectively being climbed on the way back down into the Glen. This is a long, demanding day and once we leave the confines of the glen, our route is pathless until we hit the ridge. Once on the ridge however, with the hardest work out the way, we follow a well worn path over stony ridges where height loss between peaks is never greater than 150 metres. From Stob Choire Claurigh, our 3rd Munro of the day and 15th highest peak in the UK, the views are sensational. Ben Nevis and the Aonachs forming the perfect background with the long snaking ridge in the foreground. Online booking for this event is available on the following dates.
