About this event

On Wednesday 13th March 24 we'll be returning to Fersit to visit the pair of Munros on the east side of Loch Treig; Chno Dearg and Stob Coire Sgriodain. In summer conditions, the approach to, and descent from, these Munros can often be very boggy. Hopefully, when we visit in March, much of the terrain will be frozen, enabling greater ease of passage as we cross the moor leading to the steep nose of Stob Coire Sgriodain. We have a few different route options which will likely be dictated by the weather on the day but, in favourable conditions, we'll aim to maximise the views by staying up high. West of the summit of Stob Coire Sgriodain, the ground drops away very steeply, providing a real sense of height as you look down into the glacial trough of Loch Treig. The continuing ridge to Chno Dearg has a few ups and downs and can be a confusing place in mist and when snow is still lying. Beyond this section, easy slopes gradually climb to the summit of Chno Dearg, our second Munro of the day. If snow remains on the upper slopes, north of Chno Dearg, much fun can be had bum-sliding our way back down to Fersit!! To be ready to take on this challenge you will be an experienced hill walker, and would have been regularly walking the Munro's throughout the summer months. You will be accustomed to walking in adverse weather conditions for 8 hours or more with a heavy pack and be physically very fit. It's likely that head torches will be needed on the ascent and/or descent. Your highly experienced guide, a qualified Winter Mountain Leader, will take care of all of the logistics, navigation, and decision making ensuring everyone's safety at all times creating the best possible chance of success. Additional Information Maximum Group size is 6 and online booking is available on the following dates: Wednesday 13th March 24 All participants will require an ice axe and crampons (not micro-spikes).
