Ballachulish Horseshoe

Climb the three 'Sgorrs' on this classic west coast circuit.

  • 60 British pounds

About this event

In my opinion, the Ballachulish Horseshoe is the finest circuit in these parts. The traverse of the two Munro summits of Beinn a Bheithir, Sgorr Dhonuill and Sgorr Dhearg, has something for everyone. It isn't the highest, the biggest, nor does it have the iconic status of some of it's close neighbours. None the less, the prominence of the mountain at the northern end of Glen Coe, overlooking Bishops Bay and the Ballachulish narrows ensure that the views, in all directions are breathtaking. Then there is the fine, high level ridge adjoining Sgorr Dhearg from nearby Sgorr Bhan, and the exhilarating yet easy scramble to the summit of Sgorr Dhonuill. Coupled with the ease of access, and plethora of route choices you will soon realise why this mountain ranks so highly. In winter conditions, the ridge between Sgorr Dhearg and Sgorr Bhan forms the most gracefully sweeping arc of snow you will ever feast your eyes upon. If we get to this point as the sun is setting in the west and the hills start to glow pink, it truly is an ethereal sight.
