About this event

A' Mharconaich and Geal Charn are a great pair of Munros for the winter hill-walking beginner. Lying just within the Cairngorms National Park, these Munros are in a group of summits known as the Drumochter Hills. Easy angled slopes and a route where difficulties are few and far between, make theses Munros ideally suited for those wishing to make the transition from summer hill-walking into winter. Suitably equipped with ice axe and crampons, our approach from Balsporran Cottage on the west side of the A9, provides for reasonably straightforward walking and the perfect venue to practice moving on snow and ice. Throughout the duration of the day, your guide, an experienced winter mountain leader will take care of steering the course towards the summits and will be on hand to answer any questions and offer tips and advice on 'winterising' your kit and navigation strategies. Whilst not intended as a practical winter skills day per se, being one of the less arduous Munro outings, there will hopefully be time enough to practice some of the skills and techniques required for travelling safely through the mountains in winter conditions. Additional Information Maximum Group size is 6 and online booking is available on the following dates: Wednesday 6th March 24 All participants will require an ice axe and crampons (not micro-spikes). If you do not have your own equipment then I do have a limited supply available to hire at a small additional charge of £10. Please drop us an email with your requirements. Equipment can also be hired locally.
